Arts in Education
Bring African culture to life in your school! The following
types of programs are available:

Assemblies- Invite Moustapha and his group Bantamba to enthrall a
large audience with drumming and dance.

Artist in Residence- Collaborate with Moustapha to integrate West
African music and culture with your study of language arts, social studies,
science, visual art, or math. Residencies usually last a week to a month and
culminate in a student performance. Tailor the residency to fit your
curriculum. This is a rich experience for students and teachers, alike!

Drumming Workshops- Moustapha teaches African drumming to
groups of 5 to 30 students. Instruments are provided.

Slide Shows- Moustapha has a large selection of photographs from
Senegal organized into slide shows that illustrate different aspects  of
life in contemporary Africa. Topics include: food, clothing, housing,
children, daily life, school, religion, Goree Island (famous slave port), etc.

Drum Making Workshops- Students participate in parts of the drum
making process: sanding the wood, wrapping the rings with fabric, tying the
rope to prepare the rings, and attaching the rings to the shell. Moustapha
demonstrates how the goat skin is prepared and stretched over the shell.
Schools may opt to buy the drum the students made!
